Abstract

This work examines one woman’s journey into the depths. Grit, courage, and commitment shine through as she outlines her engagement in the difficult but necessary work of mining the gems hidden in the depths of Psyche; in other words, the work of bringing the shadow into the light. As the author dances with Shadow while on a four-night vision fast with the School of Lost Borders, she finds glimpses of integration and wholeness. Drawing on the writings of Carl Jung, the article delves into how one might examine images, symbols, and dreams by utilizing practices from the fields of Depth Psychology and Somatic Studies. The importance of engaging with the unconscious is illuminated as the author frames how she makes peace with the past, and finds forgiveness and compassion, both for herself and others.
